JSTOR Music Collection

JSTOR, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a central and permanent repository of back issues of journal literature, recently added "The Music Collection" to its impressive offerings. JSTOR now contains the complete back runs of thirty-two scholarly journals dedicated to research and theory in the field of music, and includes journals published in the US, Great Britain, Netherlands, Croatia, Hungary, Germany and France. The JSTOR titles include a "moving wall" of between three and five years, meaning that full back runs of titles up to the most recent three, four, or five years of a journal will always be available. This is a distinctly different approach from that of commercial ejournal vendors who typically offer only the most recent years of content.

"The Music Collection" includes full back runs of four journals that began publication in the 19th century: Archiv fur Musikwissenschaft (1899); Journal of the Royal Musical Association (1874); The Musical Times (1844); and Tijdschrift van de Koninklijke Vereniging voor nederlandse Muziekgeschiedenis (1869) as well as the most significant 20th century music journals. Titles in the collection are:

  • 19th-Century Music

  • American Music
  • Archiv fur Musikwissenschaft
  • Asian Music
