Lenore F. Coral (1939–2005)

The Music Library was saddened to hear of the untimely death on 8 March of Lenore Coral, Head of the Mills Music Library at the UW from 1972–1982. Lenore came to the UW from UC-Irvine and built the core of the research collection that Mills has become. Under her direction too, the current facility, which has served admirably in the subsequent quarter-century, was developed.

After leaving the UW, Lenore became Music Librarian and adjunct professor of music at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where she presided over one of the country’s finest music libraries.

A memorial service was held in Ithaca on the Cornell Campus at Barnes Hall Auditorium on April 9. Donations in her honor may be made to the Lenore Coral Endowment for the Cornell Music Library.
