Mills Acquires Tosca Facsimile

With a generous gift from the Friends of the UW Libraries, Mills Music Library recently acquired the magnificent new facsimile edition of Puccini’s Tosca. From the Casa Ricordi Historical Archives, the edition consists of three volumes (528 pages) of the composer’s autograph full score, in the original folio format, in quarter leather binding with paper boards, golden lettering and ornaments after the original. The accompanying critical volume includes more than 100 four-color reproductions of costumes and stage designs from the opera’s first productions.

The work, which weighs forty pounds, was purchased in honor of five retiring Friends Board Members—ellsworth snyder, John Touissant, Trudy Barash, Ann Nelson, and Ann Lambert, and was presented at the Friends Annual Banquet in April.

We invite (and encourage you!) to visit and examine this splendid work.
