VEL Unveiled

A major enhancement to library services took place this past semester. The Virtual Electronic Library (VEL) was established through the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), a consortium of libraries from the Big Ten plus the University of Chicago. Through the VEL, researchers can simultaneously search the library catalogs at all CIC institutions. Alternately, patrons can easily select which library catalogs to search.
The VEL is particularly useful for identifying materials not available on the UW-Madison campus. Madison faculty, staff and students may then initiate an interlibrary loan directly through the VEL for materials they would like to use from any of the CIC libraries.
Searching tips are provided on the screen.
