The Music Library is pleased to announce the availability of a new online resource: The International Index to the Performing Arts (IIPA). IIPA indexes a core of 200 scholarly and popular periodicals in the performing arts, and also indexes conference papers, obituaries, interviews, reviews, and discographies. IIPA aims to cover the arts and the entertainment industry including dance, film, television, theater, opera, and more.
All citations from 1998 forward include an abstract, and a select twenty-five periodicals are available in full text; that is, the complete article can be read online for these journals. While its strength is clearly current information, IIPA does include some retrospective indexing for a handful of titles. The oldest title to be indexed is the Jahrbuch der Deutschen Shakespeare Gesellschaft (1864-1963), and there are others with coverage from the early decades of the twentieth century. For example: Drama (1919-21, 1925-1989), Player (1924-1977), and Theatre Arts (1916-1964).
Users of IIPA may recognize similarities to its companion database, the International Index to Music Periodicals. Both are products of Chadwyck-Healy and use similar design, layout, and search screens.
IIPA is accessible at Journal, Magazine, Newspaper Databases pick on the UW-Madison Libraries E-Resources Gateway page.
