The Music Library has acquired a large collection of compact discs distributed by the Pushkinskii Dom Phonogram Archive of St. Petersburg. These recordings from the former Soviet Union have been issued in two series. The first is entitled Non-Russian Folk Traditions and among its twelve discs are those devoted to "Instrumental Music of the Turkmen and Uzbeks," the "Folklore of Kyrgzstan," and the "Folklore of Georgia." This series is currently in the process of being cataloged.
The second series, Russian Folk Traditions (call number Comp Disc 8296), contains fifteen discs covering such topics as "Lyrical Songs," "Ballads, Recruit and Soldiers' Songs," and "Instrumental Music," including the balalaika, accordion, and others.
Both series include rare and unique materials gathered during a variety of fieldwork excursions since the 1930s.
