Robert Fountain Collection
Welcome to the Robert Fountain Collection web site. This collection consists of sound recordings, primarily of the UW Choral Union and Concert Choir, under the direction of Robert Fountain, who led these groups from 1972 until his retirement in 1994. Performances in the collection are identified by composer, title, performing group, soloists, supporting musicians, and date. All recordings are available for use in the library. Request them at the library's Audio Facility by their call number, which is indicated at the top of each inventory page.
The Collection Inventory provides a chronological list of each recorded performance and includes a key indicating which group or groups are performing. A short biography of Fountain can be found through the Biography link, and there is a collection of Fountain images, courtesy of the UW-Madison Archives, available on the Image Gallery page.
For a selected group of performances, sound clips have been prepared in
RealAudio format for online listening. A list of these recordings
can be found on the Sound Clips page. They
are also identified on the inventory pages with the audio graphic seen
at the left of this paragraph.
Print programs are available for a majority of the recorded performances
in the library's collection. On the inventory
page, those performances for which a program is not available are marked
with an asterisk. On individual performance pages, if a program is available,
you will see the icon to the left of this paragraph. There are few programs
for performances from 1991 or later.
A clipping file of articles and reviews related to Fountain is located in the Wisconsin Music Archives. Additional programs can be found in the School of Music concert program collection. Ask a librarian for assistance in finding these materials.
