Return to Papers and Manuscripts

Call number: WMA I, Box 1

Hanson was a composer of popular songs and an organist in the early days of radio. He was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin, probably on August 1, 1893, although some sources list 1898. He moved to Neenah, Wisconsin, in the 1910s and later in the decade he was a member of Sousa’s Navy Band. In the 1920s he established himself in Chicago as a theatre and radio organist. Hanson returned to Waupaca in the 1960s and died in 1986 at King, Wisconsin.
